Actually there are a few companies who make drivers for their tape streamers which make their tape appear as a local drive. But these drivers are a real PITA, you have to be very careful if you have it installed on your local computer. If you install a new tape with data on it, your computer will busy reading the tape for several minutes.....! I installed such a driver on my computer a few years ago, and I removed it a few minutes later.
