>>>Depend whether you look at the big picture or the small. I live in a community where people come from a variety of backgrounds, races, religions, ethnicities, and whatever else you can think of. It's a warm, caring place, where we work together to raise our children. I grew up in another such community.

>>Ok, then let me ask straight out. Do you realistically see a future where all people of different backgrounds are at peace with one another? Let me add one caveat - none of the peoples are to be eradicated to make it happen.

>In my lifetime? I doubt it. Ever? I hope so and continue to work towards that future in the way I live my life and what I teach my children.
I hope so too, but while you teach your children tolerance, there are many teaching their children otherwise. I don't see this changing. I also don't believe that full assimilation will ever happen. I'm just saying that it's the only possibility I see for peace.
In fact, I believe that the human race will destroy itself some day. Am I a pessimist? I don't think so. I just think I'm realistic in extrapolating from available evidence.
The truth is that I'm one of the world's great optimists. Every morning I get out of bed, stretch, and tell myself, "Well, it certainly can't get any worse than this." How's that for optimism?
