If I interpret what you are saying correctly, I think that would result in the APPEND ignoring multiple TAB characters with no data in between. To my judgement that would result in exactly what I am experiencing. I need the opposite solution...to have APPEND respect the multiple TAB characters that represent empty fields, so that the data expands to the correct receiving FIELDS (columns).
