As I said to ed, I stand corrected in the canadian case.
>> canada and the US would probably not have liberated us if they did not get dragged into WWII. Remember they were neutral at the beginning of the war.
>Canada declared war on Germany on Sept 10, 1939 during the invasion of Poland. The Netherlands on the other hand declared itself nuetral about that time. So you guys never did declare war on Germany. The Netherlands not Canada was Neutral.
That is correct. As we did stay neutral in WWI. Since we did not suffer from WWI the dutch governement tried to do the same trick for WWII. Hitler OTOH had other plans with Holland: Mainly as a stepping bridge towards Brittain.
The netherlands was liberated mainly by candian forces, for which we are thankfull and respect anyone who did fight in this war. OTOH, we have to relialize that the liberation of europe was probably not possible without the US beeing dragged into the war. If pearl harbor did not happen and/or hitler was a little more carefull of not upsetting the US, the war might have had an different outcome and the political european map could have shown way different from what it is now.
But you did not answer the question I asked you. Why do you ask whether Canada and the US should have liberated the Netherlands? It seems a silly question to me.
