Glad to see the 'probably incorrect'. My own feeling is that it is completely incorrect. Declaring a war for spurious reasons on a country unable to defend itself doesn't sound much like a 'time of need' to me. After 911, Canada was right there to send troops into Afghanistan, and rightly so, imho. Given another 911, Canada will be right there again. Of course, now that Stephen Harper is in power, we are more likely to step up to the plate for even the most inane reasons. I have a feeling we now have a prime minister who will yell 'How high, SIR!' when George yells "Jump!" It would be nice if he proves me wrong, but there is nothing in his past to make me hopeful.

>>>Up until recently, many Americans considered Canada to be the only country America could truly count on for support in a time of need.

>>>>>Of course as a dutch citizen knew this, but my case is that specifically the US were dragged into WWII rather than they did liberate europe because they were our allies at the beggining of the war. I have great respect for all people who liberated europe. In fact just before the 60th anniversary of the liberation in may 2005 I was at Toronto Pearson airport taking a flight back home. There were a lot of Canadian veterans taking a flight to europe. I'll always remeber those two old verterans who must have been in their 80's sitting to the opposite of me. I respectfully saluted them. They smiled back and appreciated the intention.
