I had forgotten the critical aspect that WalterM reminded us both of - that it was Hitler who started the war.
I believe it's fair to say the 'war doesn't solve anything' phrase is in connection with starting a war. No problems get solved by STARTING a war.
WWII was a just war on Hitler and Japan, but it sure wasn't a good war.
