Well, necessity being the mother of invention, WWII DID solve many problems such as "How do we get so many men ashore?". "How can we defeat a tank by an infantryman?", "How do we detect enemy aircraft from a long distance" and 1000's of others, But unfortunately they were only solns to problems posed by the War. :-)
