>Hi Evan,
>
>>>>Free society <> unfair heathcare. You're making a huge, logically flawed leap.
>>>
>>>No, I'm not. Your definition of fair is flawed.
>>
>>Once again you're right. My definition of "fair" was "equal".
>
>Fair <> equal. I profess an ignorance of the Canadian constitution but in the U.S.A., one doesn't find the word "fair". One finds inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As in - one is free to pursue a course in life knowing that the gov't will protect those 3 things....period. Find heathcare in that? I think not.

Lack of good health is inimical to all three. Therefore, it should be up to the government to try to provide at least that much in order to allow one to persue those things.

>>>>> OTOH, there has to be a better way to protect the poor that doesn't involve taxing the wealthy to death
>>>>
>>>>This is a mistake made by the right wing all of the time, which simply ignores the facts. The bulk of income tax is collected from the middle class, since they are the most numerous. The rich have means to reduce their tax burdens to levels much lower than their tax bracket indicates.
>>>
>>>BZZZT. Wrong. The wealthy actually pay a huge percentage of the personal taxes allayed.
>>
>>Can you prove that?
>
>Oh, heck yeah. Go to www.irs.gov and look at the stats.
>
>>>>> just because they seem to be good at what they do.
>>>>
>>>>There are many ways to become wealthy, only one of which is being good at what you do.
>>>
>>>Yeah, don't you just love living in a society where all of us can do well?
>>
>>So you are agreeing with me then?
>>
>
>Yup.
>
>
>>>>>No. The rich meet their own needs. It's everyone else who seems to think they've earned a ride on the coattails.
>>>>
>>>>You make about as much money as I do, solidly middle class, why do want to protect the wealthy so much. All things even, the poor are much more in need of our protect. By your own words above "The rich meet their own needs".
>>>
>/>>Actually, to be blunt, I probably make far more money than you.
>>
>>Interesting guess.
>
>I made an unfair, personal comment. I apologize and I won't dignify it with a guess.
>>
>>> I'm not protecting the wealthy, I'm just trying to point out why it's unfair to demonize them.
>>
>>Once again you say they can meet their own needs but you are jumping in to prevent their reputation from being sullied. Why not let the rich guys defend themselves?
>>
>>This is part of conservatism I don't understand. The rich guys dupe the poor and middle class to defend the needs of the rich.
>
>Sigh. No one "dupes" anyone. Man, you show a strong bias against the wealthy and don't actually think, do you?
