Why can SOAP call be sometimes very slow?
Hi,
I'm testing a .NET webservice on a server via the Internet. Calling it from an IE browser gets consistently fast responses (say sub 2 seconds). Using MSSOAP from a VFP client is sometimes almost as fast but, most often, it is incredibly slow -about *70* seconds. (There doesn't appear to be any 'in between' - it's either 2 secs. or 70 secs.)
To try to determine where the delay was occurring I added a simple web method that just returns the current server time. The MSSoapInit comes back quickly but the call itself is taking 70 seconds to hit the method - then the response is instant. While I'm waiting for one SOAP machine to get a response I can get dozens of responses back via IE on another machine.
The problem doesn't occur if I run the service on a development server in house but does occur when the VFP app is run on a machine on the same local net as the production server. I'm using hard-coded IP addresses so DNS isn't a cause. The web service does require windows authentication - but I wouldn't expect that to be the issue...
Anyone know what I should be looking at ?
(W2000 Server, IIS6)

Viv
