The comment that the DE is too closely tied to a form was stated in Andy Krameks article in the Dec '97 Advisor regarding his C/S classes. He utilizes his own version of a DE that is then attached to a form during load. I've found that article quite useful and the medical app I'm working on does not use the standard DE anymore as we too found it too restrictive. What we really needed was a DE that was datasession wide to cover more than one form at a time.

I also wonder if VB and C++ make use of a DE. If one is developing some middleware piece maybe using ADO to return cursors to a caller, whether VFP, VB or C++, do all make use of a DE? If VB & C++ don't make use of DEs, then it seems to me that we should design our apps without one too.
