You were rigtht it wouldn't work, unless one of the binary fields contains a CR or LF, at which point it'd take the next 70 bytes as the next record. Of course, anything but the first record would be unusable.

And, uh, it would also require some decoding of them pesky binaries. Now since QBasic was Borland's, I assume these would be 2-byte short integers and 4-byte IEEE floats, but then who knows, there may be 4-byte integers (signed or not, that is the question), 8-byte floats... not a piece of cake, but quite doable.
