>>I'm getting an error message "Microsoft Jet database engine stopped because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time." when trying to open an MDB file. From a google search, this message means that the database is corrupt. We know another use isn't using the database file since we've copied it to our C drive.

>I assume you tried the repair database utility from within Access... Usually this helps me: Create a new MDB and import the data from the corrupted DB. If doing all of the data at once crashes the transfer, try doing it table by table. If you can do all data, lucky you, but the corruption might be in one of your queries, reports, modules, or macros, so start with them, trying all of them first, and then if tht fails, one by one - although ideally you should put your data in one file, and everything else in another. What version of the access are you using?

We can't even open the MDB file, it gives the error above right away. Access 97. The tech responsible for the system for some reason isn't backing this up. Google doesn't show any free tools that work. We've found a couple that are about $300. They show you which records that you can recover.
