It's funny that you say that. Here is what happened to my brother, and why you should always, always, ALWAYS be willing to think outside the box. Kevin went to art school rather than a traditional four year college, and after graduation was bumming around kinda aimlessly. His one discernible talent, other than drawing, was video games. His initials were on the high scores screens of arcade games all over town. Unsure what to do next, and apparently looking for some structure in his life, he shocked us all by enlisting in the Navy. They gave him the standard aptitude tests and decided he was smarter than the average bear. During an interview the topic of video games came up, and the Navy guy (not sure what you call his position) was astute enough to make a connection. Kevin wound up in a group of 12 people in the entire Navy who programmed flight simulators. Very low level stuff -- not only software but things like debugging logic gates in the hardware. He did that for six years. When the Navy decided to outsource flight simulators he joined the company that got the contract, where he remains 20 years later, most gainfully employed. So you never know.

There may come a time when you feel you don't have the options you used to. This is not the time. Let your spirit soar!
