thanks Alex,
i am not really looking at this as training for a qualification to impress a new employer i was more thinking about learning .net through this course and thought that it might be a good way to wet my feet. but as you say they may be more concerned with me passing the exam than actually learning anything and i want to learn and understand .net in order to develop in it. just have to do it the hard way:)

>>hi all,
>>I got an email from a training place today saying that they would do a 5 day MCP .NET for €920 instead of the usual €2300 as they can get an IT grant. i was wondering if anyone has done an mcp recently and is it worth it. i know that a lot of peole here are mvp of .net and vfp and lots more have mcsd but i cannot remember anyone listing an mcp. i don't have a lot of time to learn .net now and have not for a while which i think will continue into the future but if this course sounded good then i could try to set aside the time to do it.

>Like Craig said, you are MCP if you pass just one exam.
>IMO, I wouldn't go for it. I did pass the VFP exams way back when so I am an MCP and could've gone for MCSD if I wanted to. I did not take a class, just used books and experience.

>I don't see the value as I have not seen many instances where the effort and money spent is appreciated by a future employer. A certification really says that you can pass an exam. Nothing more. I know certified people that do not know much about professional software development. It is a matter of perception with employers. Nothing else.

>If you want to learn a technology (like .NET) and want to spend money (as oppossed to just learing from books), then take a class. A good teacher can be invaluable. I mean a class where you learn the technology, not a class geared to passing an exam where the curriculum is based on the possible exam questions. To me that is close to worthless. YMMV.
