Apology excepted. I gone to the codecamp 3 weeks ago, the ladotnet last week and the c# last week. There were over 400 people at the codecamp, from all over. I talked to people as far away as Tiajuana and Bakersfield. The ladotnet is held in a lecture hall at UCLA. It was full last week, about 80 people. At the c# group in the beginning the guy was complaining that he overbought pizza. But that room filled up also, about 25 people.

And there were recruiters at both user group meetings last week due to having trouble finding enough qualified folks. I think the ideal gig for me is to find a place where they are switching from VFP to Dotnet. But the only place I know of is Countrywide and I don't want to work there.

>Let me first apologize for the flippant response. I'm sure you get out alot :).
>My only point is that I've spoken to a lot of skilled programmers who find the c#/Java languages less than satisfactory to work with. That being said I cannot argue with your comments about the market for those skills, and that a lot of good work gets done in C#, Vb.net and .Net.
>I'm on the mailing list for the LADotNet meetings but have never attended them, sounds like I need to get on the ball.

>>I think you're the one who needs to get outside a bit more. I don't spend my life searching out geek meetings to find all these various programmers you've talked to.
>>
>>I have a small set of requirements. The language has to be able to accomplish the type of programs I'm good at creating. And knowledge in the language needs to make me easily employable.
>>
>>I don't know if you attend, but there are several dotnet user groups in the area. I've attended the meeting at UCLA the last several months. Their meetings are typically sponsered by a recruiter. Something I never witnessed with foxpro.
>>
>>The last couple meetings a recruiter stood up to give a little speech. They are short c# programmers. The last recruiter listed 2 skills they are short of, project managers and c#.
>>
>>All my questions have been answered at that point.

>>>Well I think you need to get out a bit more. I've come across many skilled developers who find C# less than natural. Take any Ruby, Python, or Smalltalk programmer for instance, or VFP.
>>>Its a personal preference but I would really like a dynamic language in .Net.
