>>Jerry Brown was governor of California for two terms and has run for the office of President. As a California Democrat he did what he thought best for the people and not what his party wanted. He is known as a maverick for this reason.
>>
>>“As Governor, he had revolutionary ideas about state spending and refused to live in the huge new governor's mansion - renting a modest apartment instead, and nixing the governor's limousine in favor of a state-issued Plymouth. Brown was a leader in energy efficiency, sponsored and signed the first labor laws in the U.S. to protect farmworkers, and began the California Conservation Corps. His appointments emphasized minorities and women, echoing the social awareness of his era”.

>>On the Republican side I would consider Alan Keyes. I like the man’s demeanor.

>>As for Lady Clinton, I hope the Democrats are not serious! How about Oprah Winfrey if a woman must run? The women would vote for her regardless of party! She could start her own party! :)

>Yeah, I like Alan Keyes, but he doesn't have much of a chance - speaks his mind too freely. I want Hillary to run though. It will be fun to watch her twist in the wind!<vbg>

Keyes made a complete a** of himself when the Repubs brought him in to run for an Illinois Senate seat in 2004. He was annihilated by Barack Obama, something like 87% to 13%.
