>Indications are that these indeed are a part of the film that was held by our Department of Defense and not for release. The timing of the release of these films will certainly make the current problems with Muslim’s (cartoons) more difficult. That is like throwing gasoline on a fire.

>The reality of the story is inhumane. Release of the information at this time is the free press in action.

>Perhaps every few years additional or the original films will be shown about this episode. This is a technique used by television stations around the United States. If the news is slow, recall an event that occurred sometime back. “Two years ago today…”. In this case this story could cost many lives.

We deserve every bit of bad publicity we have received over the human rights abuses at Abu Ghraib. I think many Americans fail to appreciate what a hot button issue this has been around the world, especially in the Middle East. In Iraq, for instance, something like 60% of those surveyed supported the U.S. occupation and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. After Abu Ghraib came to light, that number dropped to 7%. We go around the world presenting ourselves as avatars of democracy and liberty, and bend everyone's arms to be more like us, then it comes out that we have committed human rights abuses as bad as any dictatorship's. In psychology this is called cognitive dissonance.
