Unless Bush was President in the 1970s, it wasn't his idea. The tax provision's original intent back in the 1970s was to enable small farmers and self-employed workers to buy a truck or van without having to fork over the luxury car tax that was then in effect and has since expired.

It wasn't Bush that applied it towards SUVs in the last couple of years, but savvy accountants...

>>>This is one of the most ridiculous statements I have seen from you here.
>>
>>A bit overreacted yes, but the point is not all innovations are made in the US. Still al lot of innovations are done in europe and asia.
>>
>>>>- The US lays far behind europe when it comes to a healthy environment.
>>
>>>This is another one <g>. Especially when you want to have a meal or a cup of coffee in Europe it is like being inside of an ashtray.
>>
>>The US did reject "kyoto" and really has, as your president said, an addiction to oil. He called for innovation on beeing less dependant on oil, something that has been going on for decades up here. I've spoken to a professor of health and environment (from california) some time ago, and confirmed what we already knew. The US refuses to restrict the CO2 output from the industries in any way, just because of the almighty buck. Using alternative resources like solar energy, wind energy, water energy, bio mass energy is simply not a priority in the US. You can also refer to the statistics and see that the americans consume a lot more energy per capita than other nations. Fuel, cars, and energy itself come with a energy tax up here, trying to make people to be conservative with energy consumption.
>>
>>BTW, smoking in a cafe in europe is for the large part restricted to certain areas. Our government also are inforcing rules to create smoking free restaurants. In most restaurants you're not allowed to smoke. Some do offer smoke areas as an alternative.

>As is typical of Republicans, they speak out of both sides of their mouths. President Bush believes in tax breaks for owners of SUV’s.

>As an oil man (as is Cheney) Bush has not been very interested in oil self sufficiency or alternative energy sources. No, it is better to open the Alaska pipeline and let the oil flow.
>
>If only we had invested as much money for energy independence as we have spent in Iraq. We would not be helping to support terrorism through our purchases of Arab oil!
>
>Now Bush speaks out about oil. What will he do? :)
