Hi,
Is anything being reported in the event logs? Sounds like a hardware problem, maybe bad RAM in one of the machines.

Had similar problem recently, CPU fan had failed and cooked the CPU, it was injecting rubbish into the files just prior to locking up.

Since we have moved to VFP9 this site is crashing at leaset once per month. The crashes write garbage neatly into several files. After cleaning the garbage out the files are still ok.
