>>No, that is only components of the framework, resuable classes and ulilities only, not the framework and not the VFE product.

>Well, in your original message you said "Another example is, if one of the Visual FoxPro framework vendors decided to 'donate' their framework (or part of it) to SednaX". Now, I know we are going to disagree in what we consider "part of it"

I was referring to a lite version of their product when saying 'part of it, like an Express version'. I was not thinking of components or utilities (like a menu editor type thing) when I wrote that, but I see the confusion. To clarify my example comments, I would think that taking core utilities and tools (something that could be applied to other products, tools, or development) from a product and donating it to an open project would be a good and useful thing. This would be different than a lite or subset version of a product. I think if a product is to be open or shared source, the creator of that product should either create and lead the open project effort or hand it off to someone who wants to evolve it, and have that project be a stand-alone open project and not mixed in with things that have no relation to it.

You will find that open projects like Linux, Apache, PHP, MySQL, etc. are independent open projects. It wouldn't make sense to add the Apache web server open project into the Linux project, it is better for the project to have independent leads, developers, and volunteers on each. I've seen lots of projects go into open source online, especially when I worked at a dot com startup and in venture capital in 2000-2001, and the projects that didn't have a lead and volunteers just sat there collecting virtual dust with no enhancements - it was a waset of effort. It is far better and will be much more successful if there ends up being 5 or more SednaX like projects for VFP components rather than trying to include every open VFP project into one. There is no closed system here, anyone can create a new open project and lead it or contribute to it voluntarily.
