I've never found a decent loaf of bread either. When I'm in Canada, I'm staying somewhere where they have some nice buns, which are not too bad as a replacement of the bread at home. After all, most of the time I'm only there for a week or so.
But yes, the couple of times I've been in the US, I did not find any quality bread.

And cheap. In Toronto, we sometimes go to a lunchroom and get a nice luch for only a couple of bucks. Toast, fries, sousages or eggs, tea or coffee, something that would cost at least triple over here. The steaks however seem to be a decent quality. In Canada the family where I'm staying always cooks excellent steakes.
