Thank you for the suggestion Borislav. Like Sergey's suggestion to use the CursorAdapter, the VFPCom utility fails on variant fields. The error message returned is:

Program Error
OLE error code 0x80004005: Unspecified error.

...but I've confirmed that it is because of variant fields. So far, only Cetin's suggestion looks like it handles the variants correctly... but I'm getting a weird problem with that as well. I'm trying to track it down.
