My father in law had it about 2 years ago. It took about 3-4 months before he was almost back to normal. He is still not 100% back to normal but very close (99% or so). His biggest problem during that time was his (left) eye that would not close or blink, he had to tape it shut at night.
Hope you get better soon. It seems you can joke about it and I think that is a big part of the healing process.
