Doug,

I kept raising it because I'm disappointed that some people (not you) have been encouraging "forking" from the originally understood scope of this project. For those who don't know, in open source terms "forking" is where a project splits because of ideological or personal conflicts. Forking is unusual and is regarded as bad form in the open source community. Various processes (such as seeking consensus about major project scope changes) have evolved around stabilizing projects and keeping them whole. Thinking about it, my bet is that you guys wanted to do that but it exploded before you were ready. ;-) I haven't seen the new mission statement but it does sound as if some people (again not you) think forking is normal, even desirable as this project "moves on". That seems a shame in a Community whose uniqueness has usually been in the other direction. Hopefully you leaders can clarify this once the dust settles.

You've asked me not to raise it again, so I won't, but I know I'm not the only one who has observed the above.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
