Sorry, Mark, but in England it's FOOTBALL or "footy". If you asked anyone for a game of soccer they'd assume you'd never played it. :-)
A SA woman I know keeps referring to a "soccer ball". As soccer is a corruption of "associated football" trhat kmeans she refers to an "associated football-ball"
