Remember that advertisement about Adolph Coor’s – you know the guy who worked in a German brewery and came to the United States to create Coor’s Beer? Well, I told people that Adolph Coor’s did indeed work at a German Brewery! He was the janitor and came here with the sweepings from the brewery floor!

Now that story may or may not be true but I have never read where Adolph Coor’s claimed to be a Brewmister.

About 15 years ago I was at the Buffalo Bill Museum up on the “hill” above Denver. I was taking some photos and put on my biggest telephoto lens. The lens was big so I had it on a tripod. As I looked down the mountain towards Denver I saw a Coor’s sign through the trees a few miles away. I decided to attempt to find out where the sign was located.

After driving for a few minutes I passed the sign “Golden Colorado”. A bit further and I found the Coor’s sign with a factory attached. I went for the tour of the facility and recall a huge room filled with malt located on an upper floor. The guide said the malting process took six months. The room was like a big fish bowl and glass separated us from the malt. It was kept at a specific temperature to aid the malting process.

On top of the malt was a Bob Cat (a small bull dozer) with a driver. It was explained that the Bob Cat was used to turn over the malt on a scheduled basis. Free samples of Coor’s were given at the end of the tour. They let you drink as much as you wanted. You could also buy souvenirs. I drank nothing.

As I left the Coor’s Brewery I noticed that there were police cars at every nearby driveway for several blocks, with one officer per car. I figured they were there to collect revenue from anyone who was a bit tipsy.

>The funny thing about Coors is that it is brewed from water that comes from Clear Creek. Now clear creek is anything but clear. The commercial they used in the past showing the clear Rocky Mountain spring water was actually shot on the other side of the continental divide in the San Juans. It is a favorite hiking and four-wheeling spot. There is even a plaque there (or was when I was there). Around 1990, Coors was fined civil and criminal fines for polluting Clear Creek with solvents and other toxic chemicals for more than a decade. Think about how long the Coors brewery has been operating. Scary. When I was living in Colorado, it was legal to drink 3.2 beer in Colorado at the age of 18 and 6% at 21. Coors was 3.2 beer and every 7-11 or Circle K sold it by the case. It was known as "Colorado _iss water" there. :o) My personal opinion is that it wasn't any worse than Pabst Blue Ribbon or Old Milwaukee - what was typically drunk in Wisconsin. They used to drink a lot
>of Schlitz, Hamms, and Blatz as well. If I were to choose a beer I would choose Corona with lime or a German Pilz beer with Orange Fanta. I'm not really a beer drinker though and probably haven't had one in a couple of years. The idea of one on a hot sticky North Carolina summer day is always better than the reality. :o)

>>>People complain a lot about the US. One day while listening to someone rant about the US, I thought it is much easier to make the case about what is good about the US, in fact it is hard to figure out what they are not the best at. I've issued this challenge is a few different ways. Either by saying "The US is best at everything", or "name something the US isn't the best at". Generally people are stumped. Try it next time you are out for a few pints of beer.

>>We make the worlds worst beer! :)
>>
>>Now a real American will tell you that Coor’s (pronounced Keer’s by lovers of this beloved beverage) is the world’s best beer! Some might say Pearl is the best.
>>
>>A few rules about beer:
>>
>>1. Never drink an American beer in a green bottle (like Mickey’s wide mouth, Rainier Ale, etc). These are referred to as “green death”!
>>
>>2. Never drink a beer with a picture of an animal on it! That goes for MooseHead Beer from Canada too!
>>
>>3. If your brew has a picture of a female on the label, then it is drinkable. :)
