Because Microsoft never explicitly stated the end is here, many people hold on that there is a future. I stated my thoughts when the roadmap was first announced.

Microsoft could not have made it more clear. That they stopped just short of explicitly declaring the product dead signalled only their desire not to announce the time of death, not any further development plans. Any such plans have clearly been chucked into the community.
