Stuart,
>I have a punter who is very keen on using mySQL. How difficult will it be for me to talk to mySQL using MM? Or does anybody have any killer arguements that I can use to convince the client that he would be best using SQL 2005?
We are adding support for MySql in an upcoming release (possibly the next one), but you can make a very compelling argument for using SQL Server 2005 Express instead. SQL Server Express IS SQL Server, and Microsoft has taken away the major limitations that were present in MSDE. There is now no artificial slowdown with a particular number of concurrent connections and the database size has been increased from 2GB to 4GB.
