So I practiced to do a few things to do with my left hand - like writing, making a ship out of a bus ticket (can do that with the right as well), using most of the tools (screwdrivers, saws, wrenches and pliers are OK, but I'm still somewhat dangerous with a hammer), using both hands equally while typing etc.

Whenever I got into the nasty corner of the blackboard where I'd have to turn my back on the class while writing, I'd just put the chalk in my left hand and continue - so I could still keep my eyes on them.

I'm a rightie, but when I was in my teens, I had my right hand in a splint one summer. That summer I learned to play table tennis, but with my hand in a splint, I had to learn left-handed. I got pretty good at it too. I eventually learned to play better with my right hand, but to this day, about the only thing I can do with any real dexterity left-handed, is play table tennis. It came in handy when I was living in an apartment building that had a games room, and I could make double on the bets by playing left-handed.

A friend of mine hits a baseball right-handed, shoots a hockey puck right-handed, but golfs left-handed. Nobody understands that one.
