I don't complain often about restaurant service, either, although not for the same reason. I am not afraid they will do something to my food (although I hear that does go on). I just don't want to be a whiner. What surprises me is that a few times when I have paid my check following a less than illustrious meal, and was asked how it was by someone who is clearly the owner or manager, they really didn't want to hear criticism. It's not like I was angry or flamed them. More like "The soup was lukewarm" or something like that. Something easily correctible, in other words. They seemed to immediately lose interest, as though all they wanted to hear was compliments. If you don't want constructive feedback, don't ask!
