Aye, I know you could call a member of any country on the 2 continents an American, but they've all got a distinctive name to their countries, but what else do you call you guys - a Uniteder? In a way you should be chuffed that one identifies a whole continent with you.

On the other hand, you guys often use British and English synonymously, forgetting Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland :-)

>Every country I have been to referred to U.S. citizens as 'Americans.' It seems to be a universal mistake.

>>>You got it. The term "American" is a double mistake.
>>>1) There is no continent called America (only North America and South America) so nobody should be called an American
>>>2) Refering to people United States of America as Americans is a misunderstanding of the descriptive nature of the name. A better name would be "Unionists" or "UnitedStaters", though I realize that Unionist has some civil war connotations. How about USA'er?
