Hi Evan,

Sorry, I tought his skill was something computer related, so it
was somewhat strange to me that you wld let him get away with it :)

It is all very strange situation.
If it is only 3-6 months training needed to replace him, then
your company should certainly go for it.
As we all know, in well organised environment no one can be ireplaceable.

Especially due to the fact that in such situation realy bad person
can play all bunch of games with company. Like purposely causing fixable problems to equipent that of course only he can fix, in order to secure steady flow of credits to his name.
(Since he is having as you said priviledges, bonuses, status etc.) Whole thing smells very bad to me.

I just hope that equipment you are refering to, has nothing to do with
treatment of actual patients.

>I won't get too specific, but it is fixing a very expensive and uncommon type of medical device. He is good at fixing it. But I (and everyone) is convinced that he purposely pushed other people away with anti-social behaviour so that he could become the sole expert.

>Yes. No blood relation since this is not allowed in the organization.

>My opinion is that would could rely the the company that sold us the equip to fix it. Other places pay for this. We then could train someone (if they did it full time) within 3-6 months to get to his level.

>>What is gonna happen ?
>>If that skill is so mission criticall, then managment should by all means find the way to educate more people to be able to perform the same.
>
>Exactly and this is normal operating procedure in our dept.
