Quickbooks does have a centralized data store. It is just not a server database. It is file based like dbfs.

That is simply not true. I say that because there are a LOT of small business accounting packages that offer that and small businesses have not switched to them. Quickbooks is ubiquitous. At least that is what my CPA says. <g>

And last I disagree with you about centralization and ease. Those are buzzwords. What centralization and ease does a server database really offer? Robustness and security are another matter.
