>Watching BBC World today, they referred to Belarus as Europe's last dictatorship. "Since 1994, the country has been led by Alexander Lukashenko, who has been cited by Human Rights Watch for various violations of human rights and is generally regarded as a dictator by Western standards."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BelarusI have seen his name spelled "Lukashenka" often. I wonder if that is the Belarussian form. The
Economist described Belarussian as "an ill-defined language spoken mostly in the countryside". Maybe Mr. Lukashenko/a doesn't even speak Belarussian. He has moved his country closer to Russia and may dream of unifying with Russia and eventually becoming the Russian president.
