Photoshop is overkill for such file manipulation process. We have faced that situation when doing report at several conferences. Basically, it is important to only end up with the required data as this will simply overload the bandwidth. For exemple, the first time someone looks at the list of users online, if there is about 100 members with 25 of them having a picture. This would represents about 50k in total. But, imagine if you have 50k for each picture. It just wouldn't make sense. In such case, the regular size is about what I sent you and the quality is preserved. :)
