Canada has taken over command of southern Afghanistan. A strange incident happened a few days ago. Canadian troops were getting to know the elders in some villages, and had joined a meeting. It is customary for soldiers to remove their helmets as a sign of respect in these circumstances. Part of the way through the meeting, the women and children left the meeting, the soldiers thought it was odd... then suddenly an attacker jumped up and hit one of the soldiers in the head with an axe. The other soldiers killed the assailant and a massive firefight started. The next morning every male of fighting age had left the village. What is really sad is that the soldier is a real humanitarian who had worked with prostitues on Vancouver's lower east side.
The commander in the region said that the attack was designed to test the Canadian soldiers.
