If I'm on a flight in which individuals try to hijack it using nail files, clippers, screwdrivers, etc., I'm all for looking for a few men who are willing to act like men, jump these individuals and make sure they don't have opportunity to hijack any more. Yes, the plane might go down any way, but better to go down fighting, denying them their victory than just letting them have their way. We live in perilous times.

Exactly. This was the point I was making. You may fear a gun, or a hunting knife, but I think I could take 100 stabs with a wee nail file before going down, esp. if I were pumped full of adrenalin and my life and that of the whole plane were threatened. i.e. confiscation of such things is worthless. Even on teh 9/11 "Plane that fought back" the passengers were willing to face the hijackers' guns but couldn't get at them on the flightdeck.

I think I even heard recently of someone having a tiny pistol effigy on a neck chain taken. Even if it could have fired it would have caused no more harm than a bee sting! Go figure :-)
