>>>It is quite amazing to me that I have not had a ticket of any kind in nearly 20 years. I had plenty before that, and there were plenty more times I could have been caught and wasn't. Maybe it has something to do with no longer driving Corvettes....

>>It's been about 15 years for me. Not that I haven't been stopped, but I've usually managed to talk my way out of it. <g> I haven't even been stopped in about 5 years, and I've been driving 'Vettes for 4 of those. Must be some other reason...

>I have never once talked my way out of a speeding ticket. Usually I didn't try, accepting it as the consequences of my actions. A couple of times I did try and it was no dice. Driving a red Corvette I shouldn't have expected much sympathy. The last time I got a ticket I was driving from Cincinnati to Vincennes, IN, on Thanksgiving morning to spend the holiday weekend with my girlfriend and her family. It was an Indiana trooper who pulled me over. He probably would have let me off, given it being Thanksgiving and all, if he hadn't seen the speed detector on my dash. It didn't do me a bit of good in that case. He was parked in a classic speed trap spot, up a hill, a** against the bumper, clocking everyone who drove by. By the time my radar detector started squawking he already had me dead to rights. Fair enough.

The main rule is: Be Polite

There is no "magic phrase" or anything like that, and don't offer up excuses. Another important thing is don't admit anything!

I've never even owned a radar detector, so that's never been an issue for me. I've always had my own "6th sense" about where they'd be. ;)
