>>Say, do you know a drum-n-bass band Disciplin a Kitchme? I know they were on Eu MTV a decade ago, and are basically a transplant of the Belgrade band of the pretty same name - "Discipline of spine" (Koja was still the main guy in it). In one of their songs, I think it was "Don't throw concrete blocks off the top of your house" (don't know how how much of this got into the song title) the nice plump black lady who sings in it says "let's go metric". I thought that was a partly in support of the Isles go-metric campaign. So... how really metric is Britain nowadays? Kilos, liters, meters, Celsius, but miles?

Neither am I - these guys have a more political meaning. Their song "noize in fashion" was the leitmotif of The Walk in 1996/7, when we were making noise in the streets to overpower Sloba's noise machine, i.e. state TV news. But Koja's just good... can't believe one can draw so much energy from just a bass. OK, and a few wind instruments from time to time.

>We use Celsius in the winter and Farenheit in the summer

And you drive a PT, not a Prius? :)

>I read a whole list of these recently which really brought it home just how hybrid we are. If I can find it I'll cite it.

1945, a commesar teaches the peasants:

"Comrades, we're at such a phase now that we're with one foot in capitalism, and with another in socialism. Any questions?"

"How long do we have to stand so splayed?"
