Well, makes sense. Most of the output of the TALK (apart from variable assignment) was the information on commands which change _tally - things like "... records indexed", "...records deleted" etc. Now since VFP 3 (or so) that part of visual indication was moved to the status bar. It seems the rest of the Talk On echoing went there as well, though invisibly - you don't get the echo from the assignment.

Now, in retrospect, it does seem logical that Fox reverts to its FoxPlus and FP behavior in this area when you remove the status bar.
