I think he was an exception for the amount of money he gave up. Not for being partiotic. I think there are lots of reason people join. Money is one of them but not the only reason. Their's Family tradition, education, to get out on ones own, to test one self - I'm sure there is more. You seem to try to lump it all in under money like if there wasn't poor people no one would join. I think the military is a great thing if your poor anyways. If your poor and can't affored college it's a way to get college paid for. Then their the next generation of kids will be better off because the parent went to college.
