Hi David,

>Are you saying that VJ++ is VB-like now? I licensed VJ++ 1.0 to learn about Java but found it too hard - a NEW development environment that's not graphical doesn't seem to make sense to me - so I closed off and stuck with VFP.

I think it is irrelevent to compare VJ++,VB and VFP. All three products are good for doing specific jobs. VJ++ is not VB like and it is more like C and it would remain remain that way. You are not stuck with VFP. If you are developing database applications, using VB might take much longer to complete it. Depending on the type of application VJ++ would even be a nightmare.

VJ++ is for web and it is much more powerful than VB script. A clock could be written with couple of lines on DHTML for e.g.

>That's why VFP people should take at least a passing interest in Java. When you see how fast VJ++ has gained the features VB has and has bypassed VFP in proper participation in VS, you have to ask what is so special about VJ++ that allows it to do that when VFP apparently can't.

You might be surprised that there are lot of VFP developers who take interest in Java. Not only Java but rather technology and in particular DHTML and XML. The question here becomes which technology suits best for which purpose. Our job then becomes to pick the best available tool for the right job and complete it within the right timeframe.
