I recall Pope John Paul II standing on the steps of Mission Dolores Church in San Francisco, just before giving mass during his visit to our town. He was confronted by a group of homosexuals carrying signs protesting the view of the Catholic Church towards homosexuality. One of the members of the group stopped the Pope and presented the views of his group on the subject. The Pope responded, “It is not a sin to be a homosexual but it is a sin to commit a homosexual act”.
