I replied to Sorin before reading your post. I also initially thought it might be the 'TIMEOUT 001' clause that was the culprit - but I ran this in in VFP8SP1 using NOWAIT - the counter increments but not as frequently.

UPDATE: Just tried VFP6 & 9 with NOWAIT and see the same behaviour.
