And now that I think of it, my false reading may be correct: SFRY really stands for Science Fiction Republic. Compared with anywhere else I lived, it was the best.

Das Bundesrepublik Jugoslawien :). Nobody ever got around to remember its holidays - not even their names, nor dates thereof. "We don't work tomorrow" - "why?" - "it's a state holiday" - "um, which one?" - "dunno... one of 'em Slobadays".

And 29th of November, the old Day of the Republic (the DFY, proclaimed in 1943) was still celebrated until just a few years ago, because each time it was to be taken off the calendar, the Montenegro delegation wouldn't show up in the Parliament :).
