>I am running an app that uses an alias to refer to a table. When I run a report I want to check and make sure that a file is open and the alias is being used else show a message box saying that a file is not open. If it is, then the report should run. I have tried quite a few ways to get this done, but with no luck. The alias is the cause of my trouble. If it were just a filename, I could do this. Any ideas?

I would suggest that, as part of the program that shows the report, you prepare a cursor with the data for the report, instead of accessing the table directly.
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
