Yes, but admittedly it is the interpretation of the Koran which created Sharia Law, not strictly text from the Koran in many instances. The same holds true for our laws. They were mostly written by men with strong religious beliefs as well.

>OK. Let's say it's just a matter of law, not religion. Who got the law(s) made? This could only happen in a state where the dominant religion has its hands on the levers of power.

>>The issue is not religion, but law. The Sharia law in effect right now in Afghanistan does not prohibit, but rather supports, the death penalty for practicing any religion other than Islam. It is not a question of whether or not the religion is controlling the people, but rather the people who set the law. Sharia law is not Islamic law, but rather Muslim law - a law set forth by Muslims and not necessarily based 100% on Koran text. It is based on the Koran, but it really is only 'inspired' by the Koran in most cases.

So, if fundamentalism means to run the bible exactly what Jesus wrote.. So, only pray and love some Islam and other people will have from a Cristian..

>>>Jesus did not write the Bible. It was put down in written form decades and in some cases centuries after his death. Did you ever play the game Telephone? A group of friends sit in a circle and the first person whispers something into the ear of the person to his or her left. That person whispers it on to the next person, and so on. By the time it comes back around it is not the same message at all. And that happens in the course of maybe a minute, not centuries. There is absolutely no rational reason to accept these writings as historical fact. To me the Bible is an excellent collection of parables. It contains some of the most beautiful writing ever. But I do not give it much credence as history.

>>>I do not have a problem with anyone's religious beliefs. I really don't. Where I have a problem is when attempts are made to ram them down my throat, as though they are the only "true" religious beliefs. They are not. That POV directly contradicts the principles this country was founded on.
