Actually Interbase isn't too bad. I'm serious. It has some very interesting features, like auto-notification of clients when values change and things like that. And its a nice C/S database that has allowed F/S-like features for years- features that SQL Server is only getting now.

All that is "wrong" with it is the risk of being from Inprise. Some companies may accept the risk of a development tool from an uncertain company as long as the precious database is secure.

But IMHO Inprise is on the up anyway. Their emphasis on open front-ends, excellent IDEs and strong middleware will soon return them to profitability.

Disclaimer: last time JR advised "buy Borland Shares", their value dropped alarmingly by several dollars almost immediately! <g>

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
