>>>I just do not agree with the policies the dominant wing of the Republican party espouses these days. They have led us straight into a hellhole and I don't like it. (The budget surplus turned to a record deficit, the fool's mission in Iraq, the increasing hatred of the U.S. around the globe, the increasing polarization here at home .... yes, I lay these at Bush's doorstep).

>>You disliked Bush from the beginning, and like nearly everyone else, you're more likely to rationalize any anti-Bush position than conceding anything to him because it's more comforting emotionally and less demanding mentally.

>Yes, I have disliked Bush from the beginning, and nothing he has done in office has given me reason to change my mind. (Please tell me what I am overlooking). It still stuns me that this incompetent boob was elected leader of the world's sole remaining superpower.

>Did you hear what he said in a speech the other night? He said we never claimed Iraq had WMD. Stood right there in public and said that into the microphones. Does he think we're that forgetful? That stupid?

Sure must look that way to Bush! Why who has done anything about any of his doings? I think that Nancy Pelosi said it best, “The emperor wears no clothes”! The voting public has no voice worthy of thought.

>Oh, here's another good one. I am told he said Iraq will ultimately be the responsibility of his successor. If that's the case, our little adventure in Iraq will have gone on for at least six years, making it (correct me if I'm wrong) the second longest war in U.S. history. That's a pretty long way down the road from "Mission Accomplished" two or three months into it. Governments lie or dissemble during wartime, that's axiomatic, but the lies we have been told about Iraq are setting the bar pretty high up there.

I would imagine that when the present administration is replaced, the war with Iraq will be over. We will withdraw. The killing will continue in Iraq but the media will fail to mention it – it will no longer be “news worthy”!

During the early 1980’s the media reported on three wars that were being fought. In fact there were 56 wars being fought at that time but not all were “news worthy”.

>IMO your statement could be turned on its head and be equally true. Just as there are those who will rationalize their anti-Bush positions in all cases, there are those who will rationalize their pro-Bush positions in all cases. I have been following politics for quite a while, probably longer than you have been alive (meaning no insult by that), and this is by far the most polarized we have been as a country. The late 60s and early 70s, which is when this political divide started, was duck soup compared to what we have now.

When it comes to comparing the late 60’s to mid 70’s I become emotionally involved, as I am a Vietnam Veteran. It took years of protesting before the voice of the people was heard. Johnson was our worst President as far as I am concerned with Bush a close second.

58,000 GI’s killed in Vietnam and 3 million civilians. Johnson was a known liar and Bush just does not get it. Whenever Bush gives a speech the next day his press secretary will state, “What President Bush really meant was…”! I heard the original speech in each case but I guess that Bush does not know what the value and meaning of words are.

We are a republican form of democracy and our “voters” got what they deserve! Now we have to live with it!

Where is Thomas Jefferson when we need him? :)

The times they are a changin. Black is white and white is black. Yes is no and no is yes. Just wait for the present administration to tell you how to think! Agree with the administration if you are a true Patriot. I think I have heard that speech before.

Memories of Kent State – Nixon – bombing Cambodia. Gee I missed the invasion of Laos. Watch out for those Dominos.

President Eisenhower got us involved in Vietnam. He financed 85% of the cost of the French military operation in that country and look at what happened. President Kennedy refused to escalate the position of our troops from training to combat. Johnson caused a war that we could never win.

What have we learned? KEEP TEXANS OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE! :)
