>>>In our lunch room, we have a few toasters, and above them on the wall is a sign that says "Please to not leave toasters unattended." Well, I went in there and damn if there was nobody else around. I had to sit there with those toasters for hours until someone else came into the room. Then I ducked out in a hurry.

>In a food fair in an underground mall near here there are a bunch of fast food outlets - pizza, burgers, subs, etc. The 'Fit for Life' outlet has a sign at one end of their counter that says "Place Orders Here". Whenever I go there and ask for a pizza from the pizza place across the way, they get really mad. They ought to remove the sign if they don't really mean it.

>And don't get me started about the so-called 'all you can eat' restaurants. Try explaining that you're just taking a break until tomorrow, and that you'll certainly be able to eat more then.
You Canadians are SOooooo radical! :-)
Your "Please to not leave toasters unattended." story just reminded me of a sign in an appartment block near where I work. Near the dustbins (trash cans) there's a sign that obviously extolls residents to put their garbage only in the bins:
"Anyone not putting rubbish in the bins will be prosecuted"
This is an official, printed notice on plastic, in a frame!
I looked at this and thought, that must mean everyone in the world is guilty, all the time, except those that put their garbage in, and then only during the action; thereafer they return to their guilt. It makes me want to shout for the caretaker to come and get me.
